“This reminds me of all those magazines that give you 200 tips for losing weight and ‘looking great’ and then tell you that their secret tip is, ‘confidence is what will really attract people to you.’   It’s like society wants to shame you for not living up to their ideal, and also shame you if you don’t try to live up to it,” replied the mirror.

Well thats an interesting way of reframing things. I mean she only tried to murder a girl because she was more pretty. She only tried it several times infact and wanted the corpse marred and the heart taken out.
But you know.. lets put all that aside and say people think she is a villian because she was vain. Sure her vanity was her motivation but its made pretty clear she was a horrible person long before that.

what part of this said the other aspects of her villainy were being placed aside??  It merely notes that- as is the case with many female evil villains- a key part/motivating factor behind their villainy involves vanity/fear of aging/et cetera.   She- like all evil villains in cartoons and other media- is not actually a real person so it’s worth considering why that type of motivation is given to them over and over.  What does it say about us that we expect this of female evil villains to the point where the point of this whole thing isn’t obvious even after I make a joke picture about it?
It’s not a sarcastic, “she only tried to murder a girl because she was more pretty.”  That is the whole point.  Not that she isn’t evil/is innocent because the movie frames her in this way- the image is questioning why so many movies use that framing (women obsessed with their appearance) to create a female evil villain.
It’s representative of a greater cultural problem where women are simultaneously taught that they shouldn’t care about their appearance (be confident!  Look natural!  Every girl is beautiful!  You’d look better without so much makeup!  Eat more, real girls are ____!)  yet at the same time are exposed over and over to the same standard marketed image and expectations of “beauty” (thin, flawless faced, hourglass figure, cis white girl) with little wiggle room.

That’s why once upon a time, i think, is such a good adaption of the snow white legend. The queen, regina, hates snow white because she told regina’s mother about her boyfriend, which resulted in his death. It’s not ideal because of course there has to be a man and romance involved, but at least it’s not like, “YOU”RE GORGEOUS IMMA KILL YOU”.
